This is a striking and very useful piece of information journalism from the climate website Carbon Brief (click on the gif above to go there also). Very elegantly, it measures the impact of 1.5C, 2.0C and occasionally more degrees of global warming, on continents and also on features of the environment itself - ocean levels, crop failure, temperature, drought and more. You can click, select and compare on a vertical timeline. Smooth, but also bracing and terrifying in its statistics.

We would recommend pairing this with something we blogged a few years ago, but which has been continuously developing since - which is Leeds University’s A Good Life For All Within Planetary Boundaries. Here you can compare countries side by side, and see how they’re managing to both meet “social thresholds” (the general conditions for wellbeing) and stay within the “planetary boundaries of our earth system”.

The gif below shows countries mapped on how badly they trangress climate boundaries, and how well they provide for their societies. We need to be in the top left hand corner… and the nation which is closest is Vietnam.
