Watch the first part of “Connection, Meaning and Politics” - Jeremy Lent talking about his new book, “The Web of Meaning”, with A/UK’s Indra Adnan

THIS EVENT HAS PASSED. WATCH THE RECORDING ABOVE.

We invite you to join in an exciting two-part, two-book Zoom discussion, hosted by the Alternative UK. The overall title is Connection, Meaning and Politics - the overlap between two powerful volumes of research, experience and advocacy.

The first part is an interview and Q&A with Jeremy Lent, whose new book is The Web Of Meaning: Integrating Science and Traditional Wisdom to Find Our Place in the Universe.

The event takes place on Zoom at 6.00pm-7.00pm BST (10.00pm-11.00am PDT) on Thu, June 17, 2021. To attend, sign up on Eventbrite.

The interviewer will be Indra Adnan, founder and co-initiator of The Alternative UK, and the host Pat Kane, editor of A/UK’s Daily Alternative.

What’s our theme? As our civilization careens toward a precipice of climate breakdown, ecological destruction, and gaping inequality, people are losing their existential moorings.

Our dominant worldview of disconnection, tells us we are

  • split between mind and body,

  • separate from each other, and

  • at odds with the natural world

This worldview has passed its expiration date. It's not just dangerous—it's based on a series of flawed assumptions that have been superseded by modern scientific findings

Once we shift our worldview, another world becomes possible.

Jeremy Lent’s new book The Web of Meaning offers a coherent and intellectually solid foundation for an alternative worldview based on deep interconnectedness, showing how modern scientific knowledge echoes the ancient wisdom of earlier cultures.

Weaving together findings from modern systems thinking, evolutionary biology, and cognitive neuroscience with insights from Buddhism, Taoism, and Indigenous wisdom, it offers a rigorous and integrated way of understanding our place in the cosmos that can serve as a philosophical foundation for a life-affirming future.

Please note: This is the first part of a 2-part Book Launch Series. The next event in July (date to be confirmed) will celebrate the launch of Indra Adnan’s forthcoming new book, The Politics of Waking Up: Power and Possibility in the Fractal Age (book page here, preorder now available).

Jeremy’s book deepens our conception of human being, seeing our lives embedded in a “web of meaning”. Indra’s book asks: what kinds of new systems - in economy, polity, culture, technology and more - does that imply? And how do we concretely, participatively build them?
