Our compendium of Fringe events at the COP26 conference - if we've missed any out, let us know

(As you can see above, Greta has arrived at Glasgow Central Station, so we can begin…)

A/UK is taking part in a few COP Fringe events - see the opening of last week’s post. We asked a few contacts to help us out with mapping all the major Fringe events, and below is a tentative start. If there is something we’ve missed out, please mail us here.

CLIMATE FRINGE

The obvious self-declared place to go for all the COP activity. They have a great daily page here, with all the zones and forms of event clearly categorised. You can also follow them on Twitter (see embed below) and go down their time-line - very active and link-laden.

Cop26Coalition

They are the organisers behind the major march on November 6th through Glasgow City Centre - but they have a full calendar of events for the week, including this People’s Summit For Climate Justice:

Our informants tell us that The Landing Hub will be central for a lot of activities - their events list is here. The address is 220 Broomielaw, Glasgow G1 4RU, from 9am - 5.30pm (access to the site is from Broomielaw  / MacAlpine Street to the west of the site).

As well as a programme of screenings, workshops, performances, talks and parties, they will also have an exhibition space, showing “vertical farming to Passivhaus technologies, via sustainable power generation and active travel solutions”

Govan has both wetlands - and a free state

Two interesting physical sites around the COP Zone, which comprises the post-industrial and evolving landscape of Govan. First it’s Blue Green Glasgow, with their events programme exploring their development of wetlands areas in and around these old shipping and industrial sites, especially the dry docks zone. And Govan Free State, mentioned in last week’s post about the Centre for Human Ecology, is a celebration of the legacy of the Pollok Free State, an anti-road-building protest in Glasgow which started at the same time as the COP process began (more here). They’ve set up some temporary autonomous zones (with a list of “happenings”) over a variety of Govan locations.

Great sustainable hangouts…

We’re also told that you if you want to see great examples of inner-city regenerative development, growing and cultivation, you must visit the Claypits, The Bowling Green and the Govanhill Baths - who are running their Govanhill against Climate Chaos events.

Final word to one of our helpful contacts: “As you can imagine the backdrop of COP26 highlights the separation between those coming to attend the conference (and their predicted lack of action) with the vast amount of time and energy put into sustainability and climate action by the local groups here”.

And if there’s something obvious we’ve missed, let us know.

UPDATE: More event lists

We’ll post them here as they come in
