"A cloud community that intends to shape the land". Is communing virtually, then simulating a plan, one way to build a new city?

Akon’s planned Cryptocurrency City in Senegal

The Twitterverse sometimes produces some fascinating wormholes… Here’s a flurry of tweets inspired by “How To Start A New City”, by the blockchain investor and mentor Balaji Srinivasan (below), and after it some fascinating responses (supportive and critical) from Twitter respondents.

The reason we’re posting is that we’ve been wondering for a while (see Indra’s editorial here) whether the establishment of more robust virtual communities, and even polities, is a way to shake the grip of increasingly centralised government in Westminster. Particularly if those v-communities can help coordinate strategies about land/buildings, food systems, civic tech and other material assets. Is this what a CAN might be able to do, at a more local level?

This is something of a wild ride - but we’d like to hear your responses, to both Balaji and his interlocutors.

And something to keep an eye on: the former popstar and now energy entrepreneur Akon, building his crypto-currency city in Senegal (and more here from the Standard).
