We live in an era of perma-crisis (climate, societal, warring of all kinds). Over these eight years, The Alternative Global has found that the remedies are available—but scattered. The systems we are embedded in—media, economic, political—take our power away. So how do we achieve the world we know, deep down, is possible?

It starts with the phenomenon of community agency networks (CANs) that have been emerging all over the world since the birth of the internet, over 30 years ago.

People coming together cosmolocally: to deliberate, participate, build community wealth, take ownership of the future from where they live, yet connected to all the resources of the internet.

Ecovillages, Transition Towns, bioregions, mutual-aid neighbourhoods…they’re popping up everywhere.

This self-organising, rapidly connecting global network of CANs is taking shape as a parallel polis – an autonomous, tech-enabled, space for creative futuring - which we call Planet A (there is no Planet B).

In these early days, it’s mostly a feeling: if you can see the new system arising, you’re standing on Planet A.

Spring is the emerging socio-political system that connects the parallel polis with our current governments in co-creative partnership. As the old socio-economic-political system breaks down, Planet A offers a play-space for regenerative futures. 

Prefiguring what is increasingly referred to as ecocivilisation: the potent reconnection of people and planet, through the communities they live in. Building the culture and architecture of peace.
